Hey everyone!
Jamie and Yang just had their baptismal interview yesterday, and...
THEY PASSED!! :D
I was nervous while they were being interviewed by our zone leaders, I
kept pacing the floor. Thankfully, Elder Karbach's chill demeanor
helped ease my tension. They are getting baptized Thursday! Their
parents from China came to visit them for 6 months. They're so nice, I
think! I can't tell, they don't speak a lick of English, but they
smile a lot.
Unfortunately, transfers are this week. On Thursday. The same day
Jamie and Yang are getting baptized. Elder Karbach might be getting
transferred, and the other Elders in our ward both will probably leave
(the mission has to close 3 areas, and theirs might be one of them).
It's been kind of an unfortunate thing, because they've kind of given
up since they heard their area is closing. I'm trying to help get them
to work, but I can't force them to do it. Darned agency ;).
Plus also, our Philippino family came to church after staying off the
radar for 5 weeks! they have two little kids, 7 and 3 years old, who
love Primary with all their hearts. Every Sunday, they ask their
parents if they can go to church again, and again. At last, they gave
in to their invitations. We invited the father to see Jamie and Yang's
baptism on Thursday. He was so confused, he thought we were forcing
him to be baptized that week! He told us, "no, no, I'm too old! I'm
not ready, I have to work!" It was funny. We told him he doesn't have
to be baptized on Thursday, but he could get baptized the following
Saturday :).
This week, we were riding our bikes through the woods at the top of
our area, when my companion's bike pedal snapped off. Just like that,
out of the blue. It also helped that he was getting "like three feet
of air that time," jumping off of a curb. Somehow, we made it back
home in time for dinner.
We did service for an elderly woman in our ward on Friday. All the
Elders serving in our ward (2 companionships of Elders), helped pick
up sour gum tree seeds and spread mulch. She had an awesome backyard.
Behind her home was a thickly wooded forest. As we were raking leaves,
we chanced upon an innocent garden snake. Elder Wagner hates snakes,
the poor thing. His companion was being a five-year old and teased him
with it. I don't think I have ever seen Elder Wagner move so quickly.
The Sister we were serving told us to throw the snake into the
woodsen. Not five minutes later, my companion finds another snake.
Elder Wagner was teased again, then it was catapulted back to its
forest-y home.
It was a really rewarding week.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes, letters, and packages! Love you!
Elder Hansen.
