This week was so good! We got some good headway with our investigators.
We found a woman a couple weeks ago. We talked to her about families
being together forever. She wants her kids to have the gospel in her
life. We invited her and her children to Young Men/Young Women's and
to church. They came to both! She said she wouldn't be able to go to
church with us yesterday, but she surprised us by showing up halfway
through sacrament meeting. She invited us over last week, and we
taught them the Restoration. Her oldest daughter loved mutual and
church - she said she really looks up to the girls her age that are
there. She said that she wants their happiness. We told her the reason
why is because they were baptized and received the Holy Ghost, and the
first step to getting that is by reading and praying about the Book of
Mormon. We read the introduction and Moroni 10:3-5 with her, and we
told her she can hear God's voice in her mind and in her heart. She
thought it was he coolest thing, and she's going to so everything she
can to receive that witness.
I know that they'll be baptized one day! Their whole family is solid.
The ward is really supportive, and they're doing everything they can
to friendship their family. They 'very already done such an awesome
job of doing that with the other families that we've brought to
church, too.
We've been teaching a Chinese couple, Jamie and Yang Li, and they
always come to church. Sis. Li had surgery last Tuesday and she
requested a blessing. We taught her about faith in the healing power
of the Atonement. I asked her if she had faith sufficient to be
healed. Her face brightened and her eyes shone when she said yes. The
Spirit filled the room as my companion gave her a beautiful blessing.
They came to church that same Sunday, and Sis. Li looked and felt so
much healthier! They're getting baptized on May 1st, and they are so
excited. I am too!!
Shirley is doing good, too. She keeps coming to church and paying her
tithing, but there're just one or two things that are holding her
back. She has some challenges with the Word of Wisdom, so we're
helping focus her on the Book of Mormon.
Something I've learned over the course of my mission is that the
Spirit changes people's hearts. The Book of Mormon is a powerful
conduit of the Holy Ghost, so when people read and pray about the Book
of Mormon, then they WILL feel the Spirit. That feeling impresses on
the heart longer and in greater power than a witness to the mind or
the eyes (think about Laman and Lemuel seeing the angel). If we can
only renew and remember that testimony every day, then our desire to
live the Gospel of Jesus Christ will grow.
My testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith had grown so mucho today. I
was thinking about how I wouldn't have the gospel in my life if he
hadn't done what he has done. I read Joseph Smith history and the
Spirit confirmed to me again that he is the Prophet of the
Restoration.
Love you!
